My annual tradition, Thanksgiving Prayer, by William Burroughs:

For John Dillinger
In hope he is still alive
Thanks for the wild turkey and the Passenger Pigeons, destined to be shit out through wholesome American guts
thanks for a Continent to despoil and poison
thanks for Indians to provide a modicum of challenge and danger
thanks for vast herds of bison to kill and skin, leaving the carcass to rot
thanks for bounties on wolves and coyotes
thanks for the AMERICAN DREAM to vulgarize and falsify until the bare lies shine through
thanks for the KKK, for nigger-killing lawmen feeling their notches, for decent church-going women with their mean, pinched, bitter, evil faces
thanks for Kill a Queer for Christ stickers
thanks for laboratory AIDS
thanks for Prohibition and the War Against Drugs
thanks for a country where nobody is allowed to mind his own business
thanks for a nation of finks — yes,
thanks for all the memories all right, lets see your arms you always were a headache and you always were a bore
thanks for the last and greatest betrayal of the last and greatest of human dreams.

And some amusement for me, here at work, from TFLN:

(410): we’re taking a shot everytime we receive a “Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!” mass text. up to 7 since 10am. God help us.

(803): What time do you think the pilgrims started drinking? I want to be as accurate as possible.

(315): I think thanksgiving was created so we could all be thankful that we’re still alive after the night before.

I am feeling that last sentiment, there, for reals…instead of getting up this morning to wash dishes, work on my Santacon costume, the wedding dress and other grown-up things before going to work, last night I went out drinking, stole a huge bottle of Jagermeister off a bar because I was pissed at the waasssted bartender and made out with a bearded man inside the Christmas tree in front of the capitol building.

Until 6 a.m. It might actually be the first “happy” Thanksgiving of my life…!

“It’s smart to have Camels on the table. My own personal experience is that smoking Camels with my meals and afterwards builds up a sense of well-being.”
